SCAM ALERT

NHS Cervical Screening Programme

PHE Screening have received reports today of a possible scam. Some women are being contacted by text message, claiming to be from the call and recall service to advise they are overdue for screening. The message asks them to call a mobile number and provide personal details.

These messages are NOT from the NHS Cervical Screening Programme.

 The Action Fraud Line has been contacted.

PRESCRIPTIONS

Roborough surgery has received communication from the CCG to inform us that we are not to process any prescription requests any earlier than 7 days before your medication is due. If you try to order earlier than this then your request will be denied. 


Due to the current situation with the coronavirus in the UK we would like to lower the risk to the patients, staff and clinicians.
Therefore the doctor has requested that all appointments when able to are telephone consultations. If you have an appointment booked with a GP in the next few weeks, you will be rung by one of our receptionists offering you the same appointment but not face to face. Our highest priority is keeping all our patients, staff and clinicians well through this current situation with the coronavirus.


Data protection arrangements for list of ‘shielded’ people 

Practices may be contacted by their shielded' patients with questions about data protection arrangements for the lists and their personal data.  A summary of the guidance has been collated from a number of sources, including the GOV.UK website, to provide helpful content.

  • The NHS has produced a list which contains the name, address, date of birth, phone number and NHS number for those individuals who have been identified by clinicians as being extremely vulnerable in relation to the COVID-19 virus as a result of their pre-existing medical conditions. The list came from a national extraction and the NHS is writing to those patients to offer them advice.
  • Part of this advice is to register on the national shielding database if the person needs support with getting essential supplies or basic care needs met. The information given through this registration is shared with supermarkets so they can prioritise shielded people for food delivery.
  • The information shared will not contain detailed information about a person’s care record. Data to be shared for this purpose will include name, address and mobile phone number of the patient which has been obtained from those patients, solely for the purposes of arranging such supermarket shopping deliveries. The NHS number will not be used for this purpose and will not be shared with DEFRA or supermarkets or with any intervening organisation in the supply chain relating to this purpose.  Supermarkets must delete this data once the COVID-19 pandemic is over.
  • NHS Digital is the Controller for the NHS List (as defined in the General Data Protection Regulation 2016 (GDPR)). The information in the NHS List is confidential information and subject to a duty of confidence under the common law. The online privacy notice is here

Privacy note on Covid-19 for Patients/Service Users Roborough Surgery

This notice describes how we may use your information to protect you and others during the Covid-19 outbreak. It supplements our main Privacy Notice which is available on website.  

The health and social care system is facing significant pressures due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Health and care information is essential to deliver care to individuals, to support health and social care services and to protect public health. Information will also be vital in researching, monitoring, tracking and managing the outbreak. In the current emergency it has become even more important to share health and care information across relevant organisations.  

Existing law which allows confidential patient information to be used and shared appropriately and lawfully in a public health emergency is being used during this outbreak. Using this law the Secretary of State has required NHS Digital; NHS England and

Improvement; Arms Length Bodies (such as Public Health England); local authorities; health organisations and GPs to share confidential patient information to respond to the Covid-19 outbreak. Any information used or shared during the Covid-19 outbreak will be limited to the period of the outbreak unless there is another legal basis to use the data. During this period of emergency, opt-outs will not generally apply to the data used to support the Covid-19 outbreak, due to the public interest in sharing information. This includes National Data Opt-outs. However in relation to the Summary Care Record, existing choices will be respected. Where data is used and shared under these laws your right to have personal data erased will also not apply. It may also take us longer to respond to Subject Access requests, Freedom of Information requests and new opt-out requests whilst we focus our efforts on responding to the outbreak.  

In order to look after your health and care needs we may share your confidential patient information including health and care records with clinical and non clinical staff in other health and care providers, for example neighbouring GP practices, hospitals and NHS 111. We may also use the details we have to send public health messages to you, either by phone, text or email.   We currently link in with Social Prescribing bodies information may be shared with for individual care.  

During this period of emergency we may offer you a consultation via telephone or video- conferencing. By accepting the invitation and entering the consultation you are consenting to this. Your personal/confidential patient information will be safeguarded in the same way it would with any other consultation.  

We will also be required to share personal/confidential patient information with health and care organisations and other bodies engaged in disease surveillance for the purposes of protecting public health, providing healthcare services to the public and monitoring and managing the outbreak. Further information about how health and care data is being used and shared by other NHS and social care organisations in a variety of ways to support the Covid-19 response is here.

NHS England and Improvement and NHSX have developed a single, secure store to gather data from across the health and care system to inform the Covid-19 response. This includes data already collected by NHS England, NHS Improvement, Public Health England and NHS Digital. New data will include 999 call data, data about hospital occupancy and A&E capacity data as well as data provided by patients themselves. All the data held in the platform is subject to strict controls that meet the requirements of data protection legislation. 

 

In such circumstances where you tell us you’re experiencing Covid-19 symptoms we may need to collect specific health data about you. Where we need to do so, we will not collect more information than we require and we will ensure that any information collected is treated with the appropriate safeguards.

We may amend this privacy notice at any time so please review it frequently. The date at the top of this page will be amended each time this notice is updated.

New Dementia Friendly Parking Space

We have created a dementia friendly parking space to raise awareness that not all disabilities are visible and that people with dementia may now be eligible for a blue badge.

eConsult

From 11th September 2018 the surgery went live with eConsult this is a new technology that aims to reduce a patients' waiting time.

Our patients can now benefit from 24-hour online access to the GP practice. The new service is on many of Devon practices’ websites, aiming to help people get the right treatment they need at the right place, enabling patients to use online consultation technology for non-emergency ailments.

Patients can now fill out an online e-consultation form via our practice website www.roboroughsurgery.org.uk, which is then reviewed by a GP, before a response is sent to the patient within one working day.

These e-consultations that will take place, would otherwise be face-to-face consultations, so our GPs’ time will be freed up to see more patients with more urgent needs.

The range of innovative self-help tools available in the service also includes symptom-checkers, instructive video content created by GPs, and advice about the various places a patient can get help, including pharmacies, the NHS 111 helpline or an available app.

Patients can get quicker access to health advice, which in turn means that those who need to see a GP can get an appointment more quickly.

When a patient completes an online form about their condition, a GP will get in touch with the patient to give advice, offer an appointment if needed, or issue a prescription.

Because the service is online, it gives patients 24-hour access to the information they need at a time that is convenient to them.

Patients can of course still have face-to-face consultations with a GP. The online system is simply using today’s technology to give patients added, efficient and safe online access to GPs.
